Six generations of the Locker family have lived on Happy Valley since 1848.
In and around the many old buildings there is
an endless collection of items that were part of the 150 years of day
to day mountain family living.
The present owner, Neville has set up a heritage display in an
enormous wood slab barn. This houses fascinating
material on:
- local aboriginals,
- stockmen and shepherds,
- pioneer women,
- convicts,
- bushrangers,
- Kiandra's 1860's gold rush skiers,
- New Australians who came in the 1950's to build the Snowy Hydro-electric
Scheme.
Whilst the visitors relish tea and damper or a full meal prepared on the
wood stove, they are entertained and amused with fascinating
stories, myths and legends of the local mountain
people handed down over the generations. Visitors enjoy and appreciate the
simple traditional genuine country hospitality extended to all who visit Happy
Valley. The displays bring back many memories for the seniors and excite the
imagination of the youngsters. Visitors regularly rate their visit to Happy
Valley as the Snowy Mountains' number one attraction and not to be missed.
