The enormous slab "Shed" is a focal point for a unique cluster of historical
buildings which combine to provide a nostalgic and fascinating stroll through
the generations.
Generations of the Locker family have lived at Happy Valley since 1848 - and have
never thrown anything away! There is all the paraphernalia of 150 years of
mountain family living, Cobb and Co coaches including the biggest in Australia, old skis,
buggies, wagons, Aboriginal artefacts, shepherds' crooks, stockmen's equipment,
harness, farm implements, wooden washing machines, guns, clothes, photos and
documents - the list is endless.
Built at Ballarat in 1859, the Leviathan with seating for 70
passengers was the largest horse drawn coach ever used in Australia. The
original coach was destroyed around 1870. In 1984, a film company decided
to make a film about this giant coach and Leviathan II was constructed
by Sydney coachbuilder Mike Hendrikson at a cost of $110,000. Following
completion of the film - called "The Right Hand Man" -
Leviathan II was purchased and is now on display at Happy Valley.
